PLACES TO SEE

Maison Hugo is centrally located to explore this incredible region, where the dramatic landscape of deep gorges, wooded valleys and ‘plus beaux’ villages, create an intoxicating mix unlike any other.

Below are some of the many places within easy reach.

Najac

Najac is just 15 minutes from Maison Hugo and is the jewel of the area with its magnificent chateau and tourist events throughout the summer.

The chateau has a guided tour that includes climbing to the top of the tower, where the views are stunning.

There is a Sunday morning market, and a food market on Wednesday evenings, where you can dine on communal tables with food cooked by local suppliers.

Cordes sur Ceil

A medieval town set on a hill, where it is well worth the trip to the top to discover a covered square with restaurants, shops, and views. There is a land train that goes to the top which takes the strain out of walking up the steep cobbled roads.

Albi

A city with a ‘must see’ Cathedral listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, in fact it is the largest brick built building in the world. There is also the Bishops Palace (pictured) and the Toulouse-Lautrec museum to explore.

Belcastel

Looking like something from a fairy tale this village has a restored chateau. A tour of the chateau will allow you to learn the interesting story behind the restoration. There is also a Michelin recommended restaurant in the village, called Du Vieux Pont.

Villefranche-de-Rouergue

Our largest close town is a ‘Bastide Royale’ and holds one of Frances largest markets on Thursday mornings when the whole town comes alive, with plenty of regional produce on sale.

Saint Antonin Noble Val

A very beautiful town on the banks of the river Aveyron, which has been the setting for a number of films, including The Hundred Foot Journey. There are several restaurants and a very popular Sunday morning market.

St Circ Lapopie

A perfectly preserved village perched on a cliff overlooking the Lot.

Millau

The futuristic Millau Viaduct spans the Tarn valley and sits on the eastern edge of the Aveyron. It is the highest bridge in the world at 343 metres. Also in this area are the world famous Roquefort cheese caves.

Gaillac Vineyards

Our closest wine region is Gaillac, with many vineyards offering free wine tasting. Combined with a lunch, a day out to this area, is a gastronomic delight.
